How the debt supercommittee can succeed without doing anything at all

Though I now know I’m not the first to suggest this, I have an idea for how the Supercommittee can cut trillions from the deficit, far more than the required $1.2 trillion. And to do it, Congress won’t even have to vote on anything. In fact, this utterly despised Congress will simply have to do what it is best at: nothing.

Cut trillions from the deficit without lifting a finger? That’s right. Let all of the Bush Tax Cuts expire.

BAM! Deficit reduction goals = met! Votes in Congress required to make it happen = zero!

According to a Congressional Research Service report done the last time they extended the Bush Cuts (2010), the total deficit increase from permanently extending the tax cuts would have been more than $5 trillion over 10 years. And they don’t even have to vote on it.

Just let it expire. Pretend the cuts are yogurt in back of your refrigerator. “Oops, I guess we should have taken care of that by sometime last decade. Oh well.”

I know, the likelihood of that happening is pretty much zero, but how much easier could it be? They can pass all of the non-job related gun-toting laws and more god in your government bills they want. They can even keep passing woman-hating anti-choice bills. It’s not like any of those will become law anyhow.

Gardner and House GOP can keep at their attacks on the middle class, women, the environment, and everything else they support that will not become law. By being just as ineffective and inept, they can fail to vote on or pass a Bush Tax Cut extension and they will cut the deficit by as much as $5 trillion over the next 10 years.

How much easier could it be?

I know, bribers campaign donors probably wouldn’t like this plan, but Gardner and every other member of Congress can just blame someone else. The gross incompetence of this Congress is legendary, it will be easy to pry those giant checks out of the hands of donors when you just blame the process or the other party.
